Common Goal Launches "Switch the Pitch
Switch the Pitch is a first-of-its-kind, action-oriented approach to educating youth soccer players and coaches about anti-racism, inclusion, and leadership. We’ve collaborated with Soccer Without Borders, Center for Healing and Justice Through Sport, youth development non-profits, professional teams, brands, and more, to create content that implores youth players to think outside the box and reimagine the way we confront our most pressing social issues. Many of you have taken part in our ideation and we are thrilled to see it come to life.
So how does it work? After registering on our website, coaches complete the Coach Training Series that prepares them to facilitate content with their youth soccer teams through a trauma-informed lens. Upon completion, coaches will take their teams through up to 36 Challenges that focus on the many different aspects of anti-racism work. As teams complete challenges they will earn points on a national leaderboard, unlocking the opportunity to receive incentives, prizes and gear, and more!
The Coach Training Series includes lessons and skills for improving on six key characteristics of an inclusive coach, including:
Empathy
Appreciation
Safety
Awareness
Authenticity
Vulnerability
The 36 Challenges cover topics stemming from six key areas, including:
Access & Resources
Activism & Leadership
Allyship & Collective Action
Identity & Perspectives
Power & Policies
Preventing & Responding to Racism
Common Goal is trying to get as many teams across the United States (NGOs and pay to play clubs) as possible so please share far and wide!
